Biographical/Historical Note
Delta Kappa Gamma was founded in 1929 at the University of Texas. Now a national honor society, Delta Kappa Gamma promotes the professional development and personal growth of women educators. The organization also strives to improve education through lobbying and outreach activities.
The Delta Kappa Gamma state organization for Wisconsin was founded in May 1936 in Madison. The Kappa Chapter was the eighth chapter, begun at the state convention in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin in April 1944. Kappa Chapter had thirteen charter members. Meetings were held in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Menomonie in the homes of chapter members. As membership grew, the chapter began to meet in more public venues. Additionally, the chapter split in 1976 as travel among the three cities became burdensome. The Alpha Tau Chapter in Menomonie was created in May 1976.
Kappa Chapter members assembled monthly for dinner, discussion, and a program, which generally entailed a talk on some aspect of education. Members also raised funds for scholarships and professional development.
The Kappa Chapter appears to have dissolved sometime between 2004 and 2006.
