Biographical/Historical Note

Charlotte Goodner grew up in Shawano, Wisconsin, near the Menominee Indian Reservation. During her early childhood, she spent a number of weeks with a specific group of Menominee Indians. Goodner collected Indian artifacts before and after she was married, and she and her husband moved to Eau Claire in the early 1940s. Goodner toured cities in Wisconsin giving lectures on her Menominee Indian artifacts. She gave the collection to the university foundation in 1961, at that time the Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire, in memory of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Carl E. Stubenvoll. Goodner’s artifacts were put on display in Schneider Social Science Hall, along with the Owen and Newman Indian Artifacts Collections.
