Biographical/Historical Note
The Family Service Association of Eau Claire, Wisconsin was founded in 1896 by the Eau Claire Women’s Club under the name “Associated Charities.” Around 1926, the name of the organization appears to have changed to “Family Services.” By the 1950s and 1960s, the Family Service Association employed social workers and engaged in fundraising and philanthropic activities to support hundreds of low-income families in Eau Claire. Specific initiatives included no-interest loans to needy families, the distribution of clothing, shoes, and bedding, and gardening and canning assistance. The Family Service Association was last listed in the Eau Claire city directory in 1977.
