Biographical/Historical Note

The University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire Grambling State University Student Exchange Program began in 1970 as a way to introduce students to new racial and cultural experiences. The University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire Grambling State University Student Exchange Program offered the opportunity for students at each of the schools to spend a semester as a minority member at the other participating campus with the goal of increasing an understanding of regional, historical, and cultural differences. GSU, located in north central Louisiana, is a predominantly black four-year state-supported university, emphasizing the liberal arts and teacher education. In the decade that the program existed, 45 UW-Eau Claire and 50 Grambling students participated. By 1980, due to lack of interest and applicants, the exchange program ended.
