Records of the UW-Eau Claire Commission on the Status of Women, established in the Fall of 1971, a committee to review and plan an internal process related to equal educational opportunity. Includes correspondence, membership lists, student surveys, meeting minutes and agendas, historical information about the commission, event information, brochures and information for conferences and seminars such as the Women in Business Conference and Women in Employment Seminar, committee information and various reports. Reports include Equal opportunities in Education, women’s athletics, Institutional Resource Committee Report for the Task Force on the Status of Women in the UW System (April 1980), a draft proposal to establish a cooperative child-care center on campus, 1972, a classified staff handbook, a Women’s Resource Guide, etc.

Biographical/Historical Note

Records of The Commission on the Status of Women, established in the fall of 1971, a committee to review and plan an internal process related to equal educational opportunity. Helen Sampson, and then Sarah Harder, were the first chairs of the committee. They worked on Affirmative Action activities, a classified staff handbook and merit increases, Title IX and girls athletics on campus, creating a cooperative child-care center on campus, health services for women students on campus, creating a continuing education office, and financial aid and scholarships for returning adult students. They also focused on the Women’s Studies Program, the Helen Sampson Collection in the library, the classified staff handbook and creating a women’s resource guide; holding programs on women’s issues, Women’s Day, and Women’s History Week, and other activities.
