Eau Claire Rangers Records, 1861-1864
Content Description
Civil War records of the Eau Claire Rangers, Company L of the Wisconsin 2nd Cavalry Regiment, consisting of a regimental order book, two company muster rolls, and one morning report.
The main portion of the collection consists of an Order Book of the 2nd Volumteer Regiment of the Wisconsin Cavalry, wile under the command of Colonel Thomas Stephens, November 1861-November 1864. Regimental orders relating to the daily routine of the Headquarters Camp such as, schedules, drills, sanitation, discipline, etc. are recorded, as well as proceedings of several court martials and orders for troop movements. There is no information on participation in combat.
Also included are two Muster Rolls of Company L, 2nd Volunteer Regiment of Wisconsin Cavalry, covering the periods April 13, 1863 to June 30, 1863 and April 30, 1864 to June 30, 1864. These rolls include approximately one hundred names of men mostly from the Eau Claire area who enlisted in 1861-1862 or re-enlisted at Red Bone, Mississippi in 1864. The information includes the date on which they were last paid and remarks such as discharge or death dates, hospitalization etc. Also found is a morning report of Company L dated May 1864.
