The University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Athletic Committee records consist of four series. Series 1 of Meeting Minutes (1948-1990) contains agendas and meeting minutes of the Athletic Committee and other related committees such as athletic directors, men’s and women’s coaches, and Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Series 2 of Correspondence (1967-1991) contains correspondence regarding the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Wisconsin State University Conference, television contracts, ticket prices, game schedules, scholarships, athletics-related incidents, and UWEC athletes. Series 3 of Budget Requests (1968-1991) contains information about athletic program goals and objectives, accomplishments, and long-range plans, and budgetary information. Series 4 of Miscellaneous (1947-1991) contains reports and self-studies, policy papers, recreation files, and other miscellaneous files concerning women’s athletics.

Biographical/Historical Note
The University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire Athletic Committee appears to have been convened in 1948. In the post World War II era, the return of men to the campus fueled a resurgence of interest in collegiate athletics. The committee, consisting of athletics personnel, faculty, and students, determined pricing of athletic tickets, approved athletic schedules and budgets, gave athletic awards to students, and discussed the relationship of the university to various athletic associations and conferences. The committee was also involved in discussions of the place of women’s athletics at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.
