This collection contains four series: Surveys, Annual Reports, Support Services Unit Review Files, and Miscellaneous. Annual Reports include reports from all of the units supervised by this office and contain information about the state of minority, disabled, and disadvantaged students at the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire. Support Service Unit Review Files contain in-depth information about the activities of the offices and programs administered by this office. The miscellaneous files include documentation pertaining to the development of the UW System-wide student disciplinary guidelines and their implementation at the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire. The miscellaneous subseries also includes documents regarding non-traditional and at-risk students, university recruitment and retention plans, Student Affairs Directors meeting minutes, and UWEC biennial reviews.

Biographical/Historical Note

From the University of Wisconsin System merger in 1971 through 1994, student programs providing career guidance, academic assistance, and health services were administered by the Office of the Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs.

From about 1995 until 2002, in what appears to have been a period of rapid administrative change, various Assistant Vice Chancellors oversaw these types of student programs and others, such as undergraduate research. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Development and Diversity was created in 2003 to oversee the work of the Deans of Students and the directors of the Academic Skills Center, the Career Center, the Advising Office, Student Health Services, Counseling Services, the American Ethnic Coordinating Staff, and other student-centered offices. The exact scope of administrative responsibilities for all of these offices may be found in the UW--Eau Claire catalogues under “UW--Eau Claire Administrative Organization and Personnel.”
