Media Development Center Negatives, 1916-2005 (bulk 1960-2005)
Content Description
The Media Development Center provides photographic, audio, videotape, and graphic services to the University community. In 1955, a faculty member was appointed Director of Audio-Visual Aids to assist the faculty in preparing film orders and evaluating equipment. A full-fledged Audio-Visual Services department existed by the early 1960s and the department’s name was changed to the Media Development Center in 1971. This collection consists of five series: Contact Sheets, Black & White Negatives, Color Negatives, 4x5 Black & White Negatives, and Miscellaneous. Contact sheets, black and white and color negatives, black and white and color transparencies, and photographic plates are of University related activities such as theater productions, sports events, classrooms, faculty and staff portraits, and aerial views of campus providing a representation of campus life and documenting the photographic work done by the Media Development Center. Black and white negatives correspond to contact sheets of photographs shot by the Media Development Center. The negatives remain in numerical order. Contact sheets are arranged chronologically according to when the photograph was made and roughly correspond with the negatives. They are also arranged by photograph subjects. There is a partial index arranged by negative number with a brief description of the content of the image dating from ca. 1973-2005. Also included are transparencies (arranged numerically) consisting primarily of campus aerials and exterior scenes. Various negatives from this collection are available in an electronic format.
