Content Description

The Office of University News and Publications, and its predecessors, created the University Scrapbooks from newspaper articles sent to the university by a clipping service. These articles cover academic affairs, student life, faculty matters, alumni news, campus administration, athletics, social events, and general news relating to UW-Eau Claire. 1918-1923 and 1948-1983 (with a few articles from Jan.-Feb. 1984) are on microfilm only; 1984-1986 are in hardcopy only. Between 1918-May 1977 the collection is arranged chronologically. After May 1977, the collection is arranged chronologically, and then by subject. Biographical/Historical Note

The News Bureau directs the University's news program, prepares news releases, edits University publications and coordinates University relations with the media. In 1948, the Director of Publicity handled campus public relations. By the mid- 1960s the Assistant to the President in Charge of Public Affairs coordinated activities related to public relations, publications, and alumni relations. These duties were divided among several related offices in the early 1970s with the Office of University Relations (later named University News and Publications) overseeing the University's public relations and publications programs. In 1985 the office was divided again to create the News Bureau and the Office of Publications.
