Collection documenting Ted P. Simpson’s experience with K Company, 159th Aviation regiment (18th Airborne Corps) during the Gulf War and of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm from 1990-1991. Materials include a diary (a small wire-bound notebook that Simpson carried in his cargo pocket) and a transcription of the diary; correspondence of letters and postcards, which are also transcribed; photographs (170) that are numbered, dated, and have descriptions written on the back of each photograph, along with a corresponding list of the photographs; a chronology list of events; and an oral history interview from 2018, which has been digitized.

Biographical/Historical Note
This is the collection of Ted P. Simpson who was a Sergeant in the United States Army. The collection documents his service with K Company, 159th Aviation regiment (18th Airborne Corps) during the Gulf War and of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm from 1990-1991. Simpson’s MOS (military occupational specialty) was Medium Helicopter Repairer (67U). He was trained to repair the CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. Along with being an aviation mechanic, he was also trained to be a flight crew member and a door gunner, though he never served in those capacities. He also served for one year in Korea prior to deploying to the Middle East.
