Records for the Foreign Language Department range from 1962-1979 and include department correspondence, meeting minutes for the resource analysis task force, and syllabi, proposed syllabi, and course proposals for various language courses during the 1960s and 1970s. Course proposals and a few correspondences about adding or dropping courses can be found among the course syllabi. Syllabi for language courses include: The Study of Language, Foreign Language 335; International Studies – English Grammar, Composition, Pronunciation; Biblical Hebrew; Beginning Chinese 101; French; German; Greek; Italian; Latin; Norwegian; Russian; Spanish; and Swedish.

Biographical/Historical Note
Although the University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire and its predecessor institutions have offered foreign language instruction continuously since 1917-1918, a formal Foreign Languages Department did not come into being until 1926-1927. The first baccalaureate degrees in foreign languages (French and Spanish) were granted in 1951, the first year that the institution was authorized to grant such degrees.
