It develops and implements student involvement and leadership experiences, diversity and cultural growth initiatives, and community outreach. The unit provides essential campus services, including the textbook rental program, the meal plan, the university ID card, and ticketing for campus events.

The Academic Staff Committee was absorbed into the Faculty Senate, creating a combined University Senate, in 1987.
